ABOUT

Daryn Pleasants

Owner, Master Carpenter

In high school my choice for the vocational class was woodshop.  I remember back then it took me all year to build a stereo cabinet & I was so proud. (these days, that length of time would be embarrassing).  I prided myself in taking the time to do it right while learning to read drawings.

After high school, I joined the United States Marines. I have always been drawn to structure, details, sense of duty and doing what is right.

Upon leaving the fleet, I remembered my woodshop class and decided carpentry, specifically Fine Carpentry, is what I should pursue.  Two decades later, after learning frame, trim and hardwood floor, I decided to venture out on my own and founded Level & Square.

Two things that drive me:

  1. Thomas Jefferson wrote in the declaration of independence that "those with the ability have the responsibility."  I figure I have a responsibility, as a master, to do the best job possible with proper deference to the client and the piece in question.

  2. This is an art.  Doing it well means I'm enjoying myself.  I can practically guarantee great results under these conditions.  Building a house is building a house. Making a coffee table with decorative inlay is stimulating.

I take tremendous pride in the quality of our craftsmanship.

I personally guarantee your satisfaction.  If for any reason you are not satisfied with your results, I will work with you until we exceed your expectations.

Sincerely,

Daryn Pleasants

Personal tidbits, pics, and interests from my travels

Suicide Bridge2 - Natchez Trace.jpg
Suicide Bridge - Natchez Trace.jpg

Above are breathtaking views overlooking Birdsong Hollow and Rte 96. on the historic Natchez Trace. I took these photographs from a spot known locally as "Suicide Bridge".  Sadly, 32 people to date have jumped 145' to the valley floor.  The horse farms in the distance are in a gated community.

Modern Design House Nashville.jpeg
Copper Roof - Old Town Plantation - Natc

A beautiful copper roof over a laundry area, with a cupola.  Old plantation home named "Old Town" on the historic Natchez Trace.  I took this picture a day or so after the tin knockers finished.  It will never look this good again.  Things like this make the job cool.

General Lee - Dukes of Hazard.jpg

Look what I spotted downhill from Liepers Fork, outside Franklin, Tn.  The General Lee looks awesome, but that isn't Sherriff Roscoe's squad car. It's more like Adam-12 or Dragnet.  There is a large gathering of RC aircraft enthusiasts in the field behind the cars.

A very unique modern home in Nashville. From the street, there is an interesting contrast to the traditionally designed home to the right. The house surrounds an interior atrium open to the sky. You can see the second story wall of glass through the second-story window to the left.  It also has a phenomenal hardscaped backyard.  The house is located on part of the old Nashville battlefield where Hoods Army came to grief.  The monument to commemorate the battle is down the street.  Loring's division occupied this section of the Confederate line just off the Granny White Pike.
